Nutrition has played such a huge role in my recovery from a very depleted postpartum.

After my first pregnancy and long breastfeeding journey, I was exhausted, foggy, anxious, and snappy with my little one. At the time, I just assumed it was part of new motherhood. But when we started trying for our second baby and I had two miscarriages, something clicked.

Had I actually replenished myself after my first baby? Did I nourish myself well while breastfeeding for so long?

Was my body in any place to sustain another pregnancy?

We paused trying and I started asking harder questions. I began peeling back the layers and rebuilding - starting with nourishment.

The more I learned, the more obvious it became: I hadn’t been giving my body what it truly needed. I was running on empty, and trying to push through. And like so many of us, I’d been caught up in the messaging we grow up with around food - what’s “bad,” what’s “good,” how little we think we can get away with eating, especially after birth. There was a lot to unlearn.

As I focused on real nourishment -supporting my hormones, blood sugar, mineral levels, and nervous system - everything began to shift. My energy came back. My mind cleared. I felt like myself again.

Then, we conceived on the first try. I had the most steady, healthy pregnancy and gave birth to a thriving baby girl.

Looking back, I realise how little emphasis is put on nutrition in postpartum care and in fertility prep. It’s not just about food it’s about being fully resourced so your body can function the way it’s meant to. For me, rebuilding my nutritional foundation changed everything.
