"All that is needed for the majority of labours to go well is a healthy, pregnant woman who has loving support in labour, self-confidence, and attendants with infinite patience."

Why have a doula?

Our maternity services are in crisis. It is widely recognised that there is a severe shortage of midwives. Unfortunately, this means that for many women, the quality of maternity care they receive is just not good enough

Some women are struggling to access safe, effective, and individualised support, and

they are finding themselves being railroaded into decisions they do not want without proper informed consent.

Many medical professionals have lost sight of the fact that for women, this is the most important experience of her life. An experience that will give her all the strength she needs to journey into motherhood, should she be well supported, respected, and honoured. However, this is largely not the case and many women leave their birth experience feeling quite the opposite with an estimated 1 in 3  describing their birth experience as traumatic.

My job as your doula, is to reflect your own innate power back to you. You already have everything you need to birth your baby. We prepare together in the weeks and months before, working through different potential scenarios and fears that may come up.

During your birth, I work alongside any other birth partners to protect your space. I am deeply passionate about physiological birth and will work hard to advocate where needed to ensure your process is honoured.

In our Western culture, the importance of postpartum is often overlooked. Women are often expected to 'bounce back' within a matter of days, serving tea and passing baby around to numerous visitors. My mantra for this phase is to 'mother the mother'. One thing a brand new mum has got down is cuddling her baby. She needs rest, nourishment, and proper support.  Together we can plan for your postpartum phase, ensuring you have everything you need to thrive in this 'fourth-trimester' period.
